Dr. Joanne Beriswill

  • Associate Professor

Dr. Joanne E. Beriswill is an Associate Professor in the Instructional Systems and Workforce Development Department at Mississippi State University.  Previously, she taught instructional design and technology subjects at Indiana University, the University of Toledo and the University of Texas at Brownsville.  Her early teaching was as a middle-school foreign language and ESOL teacher with the Polk County School District in Florida.  She also has corporate instructional technology experience, having worked and consulted with companies, such as NCR Corporation, Digital Equipment Corporation, General Motors, and Eli Lily.  Dr. Beriswill’s current research and teaching focus on designing and implementing instructional solutions for in-person and online delivery, especially in the areas of office productivity, graphics, web design, and computer-based training app design. She completed her Ph.D. and M.S. in Instructional Systems Technology at Indiana University. She also has an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Instructional Technology and a B.A. in Spanish from the University of South Florida.

Research Interests

Dr. Beriswill's research includes the application of Instructional Systems Design (ISD) and visual design principles to the teaching of instructional technology. Currently, she is also exploring gender stereotypes in gaming choices, preferences, and motivations.
